From 1990 through 2016, The 'Baikal Environmental Wave' non-governmental organization has pursued the issues of Lake Baikal pollution, sought to stop the disposal of waste into the lake by the 'Baikal Cellulose and Paper Mill' company, as well as from the YUKOS oil company pipelines and factories of 'Transneft'.
The 'Baikal Environmental Wave' has held rallies and clean-up events, provided environmental expertise and other events in order to attract attention to environmental problems. Furthermore, the organization has actively worked with the media and published 'The Wave' ecological magazine, made films, and collaborated with domestic and foreign environmental organizations.
