The Open Society Foundation is a charitable organization of the George Soros Foundation. The Foundation provides grants to civil society groups around the world with the stated goal of promoting justice, education, health care, and independent media.
The organization has worked in Russia for almost 30 years and during this time has spent about $1 billion on the development of science, education, civil society, medicine, and culture. The main directions of the fund were one-time assistance to Russian scientists, financing of Internet centers in universities, issuing monthly scholarships to the best professors, associate professors, graduate students, students, and school teachers, publishing textbooks for secondary schools, as well as providing financial assistance to human rights organizations and independent media.
